Event Description:
Volunteer to improve the forest health by spending a spring afternoon outside removing invasive garlic mustard. This is the second workday of three in a series taking place at two properties in the Chippewa Valley – Keil Birch Creek Preserve on the Red Cedar River in Menomonie and the Town of Union Conservancy on the Chippewa River outside of Eau Claire!

Garlic mustard is an invasive plant that crowds out native plants, both through excessive seed production and by secreting a chemical through its roots that suppresses the growth of other species.

It blooms from April to June, so now is the time get it out of our natural areas before it spreads its seeds. Join us for this important and rewarding work and have some springtime fun with other community members!

No previous experience required. Identification and removal techniques will be covered at the beginning.

Location:  Town of Union Conservancy in Eau Claire, WI. Restrooms: Porta-Potty available.

Although we love our furry friends, please leave your dog at home for this group event.

Accessibility: This location is not wheelchair accessible.

Physical Activity:  Pulling garlic mustard requires bending over and working on the ground level for the entirety of the event.

What to bring:  Dress for the weather in clothes that can get dirty and please bring work gloves if you like to use them (optional). Bring your water bottle. If you like to use a dandelion digger or knee pad for this task, please bring them.
